Editorial standards and corrections

What we publish
- Calculated pages (places and when-to-plant pages). Every date and number on them is computed from historical weather data and published crop requirements, using the method on our methodology page. We don't hand-edit numbers on individual pages; if a number is wrong, we fix the data or the rule, and every page it affects changes together.
- Written pages (grow guides, explanations, this policy). These are written and edited by people. Shared climate and method sources are on Methodology; per-guide citations are being added.
Our standards
- Sources first. Plant requirements come from extension services, seed-trade tables and peer-reviewed studies. We cite shared climate sources on Methodology and plan to list sources on each guide. Where we borrow a value from a related plant, we say "proxy".
- Say what we don't know. Pages show the data period behind them. Where data are thin or checks fail, the page is not published in search.
- Typical, not guaranteed. Dates describe what usually happens in the sample we have. We tell you how often the weather does something different when we can.
- No invented experts. Anyone named as author or reviewer is a real person who did that work on that version of the page.
- Dates are honest. "Last recalculated" or "Updated" changes only when the content changed. We never refresh a date to make a page look new.
How we use automation and AI
- A computer program calculates every date, window, chart and table on calculated pages, and fills short template sentences with those results. People design and check the program; see the methodology.
- We do not use AI to generate frost dates or planting windows. Where AI writing or image tools help draft grow guides or illustrations, a person checks facts against cited sources before publishing. Exact tools and scope will be named here as practice settles.
- If you think something reads as made up or wrong, tell us — see below.
Corrections
- How to report: use "Report a problem" on calculated pages, or write to alex@planandplant.garden. Tell us the page, what looks wrong, and (for frost dates) what you usually see in your garden.
- What happens: we reply as soon as we can. If we confirm an error, we fix it, and if the fix changes dates or advice, we record it in a changelog when that page exists. Small typos are fixed without a log entry.
- Local differences: if your garden is consistently earlier or later than our dates, that may not be an error (see Limitations on the methodology page), but we still want to hear about it.
