Privacy notice
Last updated 8 October 2026
Plan & Plant is a free website about when to plant. It has no accounts and no advertising. It counts visits with Google Analytics only if you agree, and only then are cookies set. This notice explains the small amount of personal data the site does handle, why, and what you can do about it.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data is Aleksandr Gulbickij, a private individual based in Lithuania, who runs Plan & Plant.
Contact for anything in this notice: alex@planandplant.garden.
2. The short version
- No cookies unless you press "Accept analytics". Then Google Analytics sets two cookies to count visits.
- Our hosting keeps standard request logs (including your IP address) for about 30 days, to keep the site running and secure.
- We count visits with Google Analytics only if you press "Accept analytics". If you reject or ignore the question, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can change your mind at any time with "Privacy choices" at the bottom of every page.
- Your consent choice, your chosen place and your temperature unit are saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
- If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and fix what you report.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
3. What we collect and why
3.1 Server logs
When your browser asks for a page, our hosting provider, Google Cloud (Cloud Run, region europe-west1), automatically records the request: the time, the page address, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, the referring page if your browser sends one, the response status and size, and how long it took.
We use these logs to keep the site working, to find errors and to protect it from abuse. We don't use them to identify visitors or combine them with other data.
3.2 Visitor statistics (Google Analytics)
Only if you agree, we use Google Analytics, a service of Google, to see how many people visit, which pages they read, which site or search sent them, roughly where they are (country, region and city) and what kind of browser and device they use. We use this only to see which pages help and to improve the site.
- When you press "Accept analytics", your browser loads Google's script and Google Analytics sets two cookies on our domain (table below). The
_gacookie holds a random identifier, so visits from the same browser can be counted as one visitor. It doesn't contain your name or email. - Your browser sends Google the address of each page you read, the referring page, your browser and device type, and screen size. Your IP address reaches Google with the request. Google says Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses, and that for visitors in the EU, Switzerland and the UK it uses the IP only on servers in those regions to work out an approximate location, then discards it.
- We turn off Google signals, ads personalization and the data-sharing settings, and we don't link Google Analytics to Google Ads. We never send Google your name, email address or other details that identify you.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Until you press "Accept analytics", Google's script is not loaded at all, no cookie is set and nothing is sent to Google. If you press "Reject", or don't answer, it never is. If you later withdraw your consent, the site deletes the Google Analytics cookies from your browser.
| Cookie | Set by | What for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics, on planandplant.garden | Tells visitors apart (a random ID) | Up to 6 months (matched to consent), or less where your browser limits cookie life |
_ga_SKHDV6QZHV | Google Analytics, on planandplant.garden | Keeps track of your current visit (session) | Same as _ga |
We only look at totals and trends. You can also block Google Analytics on all websites with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
3.3 Settings saved in your browser
Three small things are kept in your browser. None is sent to us, and none is used to identify or track you.
- Your consent choice. When you press "Accept analytics" or "Reject", your browser keeps that choice, the date and the version of this notice in local storage (
pp.consent), so we don't ask on every page. After 6 months we ask again (sooner if we change what we ask for). - Temperature unit. Pages for US places show °F and all other places show °C. If you switch, your browser keeps your choice in local storage on this device (
pp.unit) until you change it again or clear site data. This is written only when you manually switch units, never sent to our servers, and is strictly necessary for the feature to work (no consent needed). - Remembered place. When you press Remember this place, your browser keeps that place in local storage (
pp.place) so the site can link back to it next time. It stays until you clear it in your browser settings.
3.4 "Use my location"
If you tap Use my location, your browser asks your permission and then gives your position to the page. The site uses it, in your browser, to find the nearest places we cover. Your exact coordinates are not stored by us. The browser may download a list of places for the area around you; our server logs may then record which area tile was requested, together with your IP address, for the normal log period.
3.5 Emails and messages
If you email alex@planandplant.garden, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you write. We use it only to reply, and to fix or improve the site based on what you tell us.
If a report leads to a correction, we may describe the fix in our changelog when that page exists. We won't publish your name or email without asking.
4. Your consent for visitor statistics
The first time you visit, a small bar at the bottom of the page asks whether we may count your visit. "Accept analytics" and "Reject" are equal choices, and the site works the same either way.
- To change or withdraw your choice, use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page, or the controls below. Withdrawing stops the counting from that moment and deletes the Google Analytics cookies from your browser. It doesn't affect counting that already happened while you had agreed.
- We ask again after 6 months, or sooner if we change the tool or what it is used for.
5. Legal basis
- Visitor statistics (Google Analytics): your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). Lithuanian law also requires consent before a website stores or reads information on your device for this purpose.
- Server logs: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in running the site securely and fixing faults.
- Emails: legitimate interests in answering you and improving the site.
6. Who processes data for us
| Provider | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud (Google Cloud EMEA Limited / Google LLC) | Hosting and request logs | Server logs (3.1) |
| Google Analytics: Google Ireland Limited | Visitor statistics, only with your consent | 3.2 |
Each acts on our instructions under a data processing agreement. We don't share personal data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
7. Transfers outside the EU/EEA
Google may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Google relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and, where that doesn't apply, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework; see Google's frameworks page.
8. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Server logs | About 30 days, then deleted automatically |
| Visitor statistics in Google Analytics (only if you accepted) | 2 months for data linked to the cookie ID, then deleted by Google; we only use totals |
| Google Analytics cookies (in your browser) | Up to 6 months, or until you withdraw consent or clear cookies |
| Consent choice (in your browser) | 6 months, then we ask again |
| Temperature unit (in your browser) | Session storage, cleared when you close the tab |
| Remembered place (in your browser) | Until you clear it; we never receive it |
| Emails | As long as needed to reply and keep a record of corrections |
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you can ask us to tell you whether we hold data about you and give you a copy, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interests. You can also withdraw your consent to visitor statistics at any time with Privacy choices (section 4).
Write to alex@planandplant.garden. We'll reply within one month.
10. Complaints
Please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Lithuania, the State Data Protection Inspectorate (VDAI), vdai.lrv.lt/en; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office.
11. Children
Plan & Plant is a general gardening site, not aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If a child has emailed us and a parent or guardian wants the message deleted, write to us and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. See also About and Contact.
